Artist's Description
Pages (of the mind) is an original work that captures the flavor of Abstract Art painting from the mid-1960's era. It is based on an algorithm that creates three dimensional cylinders made up of planes or pages. Imagine creating an object by opening a book such that the front covered is rotated around its spine to touch the back cover. The pages create a cylindrical space. Many paper party favors are created this way. Initially an array of "centers" are created for a number of cylinders to be some what uniformly distributed on a white background in a grid pattern. Then many random variables are employed. Each cylinder is given a random length and diameter. From their initial center positions each cylinder is slightly translated and rotated from a normal position to a unique spatial orientation. Then each cylinder is drawn in perspective to produce an interesting distortion. Color and varying page opacity is what makes this piece. No gradients are used. A random color is assigned to each cylinder. The vibrant color comes from applying transparency to the rendering of each of the overlapping pages that comprise the object. The more the pages overlap the more saturated the color of the cylinder becomes, more so nearer to its central axis. By special request, 10% of the time, the wireframes that define the cylinders are drawn to show their three dimensional structure. If you don't care for this feature simply generate another.
