In 1949, the last known native speaker of Kunza died in the Atacama desert of Chile, leaving behind only fragments of a language that stretched back to when the Incans ruled the region. The textures, patterns, and colors in this project are not intended to be historically accurate: they tell a story. They are my attempt to reach into the past and imagine a vibrant history that is increasingly inaccessible. Features include weave design, symbol layout, symbol style, and color palette.
