Artist's Project Description
In 1949, the last known native speaker of Kunza died in the Atacama desert of Chile, leaving behind only fragments of a language that stretched back to when the Incans ruled the region. The textures, patterns, and colors in this project are not intended to be historically accurate: they tell a story. They are my attempt to reach into the past and imagine a vibrant history that is increasingly inaccessible. Features include weave design, symbol layout, symbol style, and color palette. After the image has fully rendered, pressing ‘w’, ‘r’, or ‘c’ will toggle different elements of the image, and pressing ‘s’ will download a PNG file. p5.js
